Welcome to the ACREM-NSW Home Page

ACREM-NSW first appeared in 1997 when members belonging to ACRM(NSW) were brought together with members that had been operating under the guidance of ACREM(Qld). ACRM Monitors had operated in NSW for many years, not long after ACRM first formed in South Australia in 1974. ACREM was formed when ACRM Members in Queensland amended the groups name to include the word "Emergency".

ACREM-NSW is part of the organisation known as ACREM, or the Australian Citizens Radio Emergency Monitors, a Public Benevolent Institution endorsed by the Australian Taxation Office as a Deductible Gift Recipient (donations or gifts to the value of $2 or more are tax deductible). NSW is presently host to the National headquarters of ACREM. ACREM is the only CB monitoring organisation that presently operates on a national basis with members across three states.

What We Do:

ACREM-NSW's primary objective is to provide a voluntary monitoring service on the CB emergency channels, relaying calls for assistance from the community to the required services. This is considered especially important during major emergencies and other incidents when the emergency channels may be needed even more. ACREM-NSW does not provide support personnel to other services unless requested and volunteer monitoirng services will not be effected. ACREM-NSW is recognised by the NSW Police Force as “performing a valuable role in support of emergency situations.”

Monitors also broadcast Severe Weather Warnings issued by the Bureau of Meteorology in some regions, warning the community of impending severe weather events such as severe thunderstorms, strong winds, fire weather and flood warnings.

ACREM-NSW also represents the interests of all CB enthusiasts to relevant government departments on important matters when needed. This is usually done through the National body and co-ordinated with other groups such as ACBRO.

ACREM-NSW Monitors are trained in emergency radio and monitoring procedures and volunteer their time and equipment to help their community. Even though mobile telephones are extremely common these days, CB is still fitted into almost every truck, and in many 4WD's and cars, and is often used to report incidents such as traffic accidents, fires, breakdowns, etc. UHF CB is very common in rural regions, especially in places where mobile phone coverage is poor or when conventional communications may fail due to storms or bushfires.

In 2008 NSW will trial a new membership structure that will offer no annual membership subscription or joining fee. Members will still be trained at no cost to the basic level, however training to higher levels will occur during field activities such as camps, bushwalks, etc, that will be structured to include a communications theme. These will cost $10 per member to attend and will be much more than just a training weekend - they will be fun and challenging activities that will get members out into the field performing advanced tasks such as setting up a radio network, erecting field antenna and solar power equipment, navigation and map reading, bush survival skills, etc.

ACREM-NSW Members are covered by the public liability and volunteer workers insurance cover taken out by the National body. (visit the National website for more details on this coverage).

The Lower Hunter Division of ACREM-NSW also offers Senior First Aid training for the community, including organisations and businesses. Nationally recognised, VETAB approved, first aid qualifications can be obtained through ACREM at affordable prices. Visit the First Aid Training information page on our National website for more details.
